abstinence is not workingHow many times am I going to preach about sex education for teens? Apparently, it’s not as often as I should be. But you want to know some scary facts? One out of four American teenage girls has contracted a sexually transmitted disease (STD). As you can see, abstinence is not working so where are the sex education classes?

There was another survey that was taken and the stats were recently released. I know, I know, yet another survey with stats, but these numbers are alarming. You guys better start talking to your kids, friends, cousins, co-workers’-brother-in-law’s-second cousin’s-first wife’s-step-daughter already!

So, besides one out of every four American teenage girls contracted with a STD, it was said that the rate was almost 50 percent for black teenage girls. The higher rate was not attributed because of any particular ethic group being more promiscuous or anything, it was said it was due to a lack of health education.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tested a wide range of teenage girls for some of the most common STDs such as human papillomavirus, Chlamydia, trichomoniasis and genital herpes.

And guess what? HPV was found in 40 percent of teenage girls that admitted to being sexually active. HPV is not as serious as HIV, gonorrhea or syphilis but it can lead to cervical cancer if left untreated.

Of course, there are treatments for HPV and cervical cancer, but there have been a lot of critics that claim this vaccine would promote promiscuity.

Are you serious? Obviously, teenagers are not practicing abstinence but yet, there are still people fighting against vaccines? This just adds to the non-realistic ideas of these people who think teenagers will not have sex so they do not want to warn them on the consequences.

So, what are people going to do? Obviously, nothing. And while they continue to do nothing but judge and be extremely opinionated on teenage sex, the STD rates will just continue to climb for those that with no sex education.

Parents just don't get it, and it's sad because they think they are doing the right thing, but in fact they are neglecting their children in a major way. Please talk to you kids, it's not that big of a deal. The bible even talks about it and not just in a negative way. You can preach abstinence, and sex education at the same time. People think it's an either or, but it's not, it's a both.

Don't schools still have Sex Ed classes? Aren't there TV ads and billboards and commercials and a ton of other outlets talking about practicing safe sex? I'm not saying kids should rely on these things for information, but it's hard to believe they have NO IDEA whatsoever the consequences of unprotected sex. Do they really not know or are they consciously making not-so-smart decisions??

I dunno... it's almost like hearing someone hasn't heard of the Internet.

But I agree whether parents like it or not, they need to discuss sex with their kids and teenagers. I guess even though the information is everywhere, teens are still propagating unsafe myths about sex, STD's, and pregnancy. It's maddening and scary... and I'm quite glad I don't have to deal with it all just yet.

Consider this a personal invitation to take part in my Gratitude Challenge. It is my latest meme and even has its own site. I anticipate that this will eventually grow bigger than the Big Bang. It would be very interesting to see what you come up with. http://AreYouGrateful.Com
