Do Teens Know the Risks of Oral Sex?

We all know that teens are having sex more often than we’d like to think. I’m sure a lot of you guys reading this may fall under these statistics, but were you aware of the risks with sex when you were a teen?

I know for a fact that teens are more sexually active now than 10-15 years ago, but a lot of teens are giving and receiving oral pleasures without even knowing the risks involved in it. I mean, a lot of teens seem to think that oral sex is the safer alternative to intercourse because there are no risks of pregnancy, and some think they are a lot safer from sexually transmitted diseases (STD).

Wrong!

Many stats show that millions of teens are becoming infected with STDs each year, and one main cause is oral sex. The various STDs can range from Chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV or herpes.

And I know many teens don’t use protection for intercourse so why would teens use protection for oral sex? Maybe they think “well, I don’t need to wear a condom, she can’t get pregnant while giving oral!”

That may be true. But again, that runs the risks of STDs too.

Here’s some risk for both penis and vagina contacts:

Oral to Penis – for the person performing oral, there’s a risk that infected pre-ejaculation fluids can get into the mouth (on purpose or by accident) and if the ‘giver’ has any open sores, cold sores, etc. then it can potentially enter the bloodstream and get infected.

For the ‘receiver’, there is a risk if the ‘giver’ has bleeding gums, open sores, and the ‘receiver’ has a cut on their penis, there’s an infection just waiting to happen!

Also, there’s a small chance to transmit HIV. Again, ‘small chance’ but there’s still a chance!

Oral to Vagina – the same for ‘oral to penis’ can apply to ‘oral to vagina’ especially with the HIV transmission. Also, there’s always risks of the vaginal fluids and/or blood can get into the ‘givers’ mouth and if they have a cold sore, open sore, etc. then the chances obviously increase.

And don’t think that only the ‘receiver’ or ‘giver’ will get any diseases, both are at risk from it.
